SO glad we had a reservation. The line was out the door - and with good reason!!! All the staff and servers were so kind and friendly - and gave us great recommendations. I even got to take pictures with the pizza guys! :) The pizza itself was out of this world, especially the house white. Like nothing I've ever had before! SO glad I made it out there during this trip. Would very very highly recommend.

OK. This was the first stop of our pizza tour of Greenwich Village and I was super stoked. David Portnoy gave it a 9.3 so expectations were high. The legit old school coal oven, inside history are incredible. The old port alba sign, old pictures, and tons of celebrities was fun to look at. The 850F oven means pizza is served fast, hot, and fresh. This was my favorite pizza after trying 4 different shops same day. Note that because they are coal, it's whole pies only. No slices. The pizza has a nice chew, is cooked in less than 2.5minutes, and the tomato sauce is nice and tangy.

Went to lucali only to find out they were closed. Always wanted to try this place and let me tell you. It is all worth the hype. This place is great. The pizza is amazing. Service was great , atmosphere was awesome. I will def repeat next time I'm in the city. Def a 9.3 slice in nyc

Came here after many many recommendations but I will say overall this place is very overrated. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was good, but it wasn't great like many people were raving about. The seating is also very small and somewhat uncomfortable in groups. We got the cheese and the margarita were good and I would order those again but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here especially with the giant lines.

Visiting New York for the first time and wanted to try an "authentic" New York pizza. This place was hands down the best pizza I've ever ate. It was pretty obvious from the line out front this sentiment was shared by everyone that has already had their pizza. We had "the John's original" and like I said it was the best pizza I've ever had. The pizza itself was a thin and crispy crust cooked in a coal fired oven. Not too much sauce and a good blend of cheese on top. The service was also good. The only wait was about 30 minutes to get in for a seat. The inside seating area is small but they also have covered seating out front. The food and service were exceptional. This was the best and also most affordable meal I had while staying in nyc. Highly recommended.

A pizza aficionado told me about this place and I'm so glad he did. The pizza is outstanding! They have someone standing outside with an ipad ready to take your order (efficient!). there's a few tables for outdoor seating. Our pizza was ready in about 15 minutes. We ordered a small Jimmy Gambino and it was delicious ... the fresh basil, creamy ricotta, green peppers (FTW!) and mild sausage (it's flavorful, not spicy). The crust is what's really memorable about this place. They only do whole pies, no slices which is a slight bummer as I would have liked to try their other specialty pizza. I'll just have to come back again when visiting!

Came here during the weekday in the late afternoon and there was no line yet, so we were able to get seated immediately. Overall, out of the 5 pizza places I've been to, this is my favorite pizza place. Their white pizza was so good with a crispy crust and roasted garlic. This will be a go-to spot for me on future trips to NY. Side note: they only serve whole pies, they do not serve pizza slices to go.

This is one of the pizza spots I'll bring people to sit down and have a delicious NYC pie! John's has been around for a long time, and yes I have been going here for a long time! You come here, stand in line, and when it's your turn to enter, you go into a great spot with a nice ambiance of NYC culture. My go-to's here are their Sasso and Margherita. The texture of this pie here is what I enjoy, which is very crisp. The sauce tastes great on these pies. You can also not go wrong with their Original pie, which could be one to try if you're looking at trying their simple pie without all the other toppings to see how the it tastes. Even the plain pie is worth getting! If you want to try other dishes, I have had their Meatballs which I recommend! You cannot go wrong also getting their Fried Calamari or Garlic Bread. Service is typically on point here when I go, with friendly service and good people to help you out!
